Hydrotherapy is one of the oldest treatment and rehabilitation methods. It is very effective for damaged tissues which are more sensitive to irritants than healthy tissues. WHAT IS HYDRO MASSAGE IN THE POOL?
Hydro massage in the pool is a physical medicine method that applies physical pressure to the body using three water jets in a fresh water pool. The pool has two underwater jets (one for underwater massage from below and one from the side) and a cascade. The hydro massage pool is also adapted for people with functional disorders.
WHEN IT IS RECOMMENDED
It is recommended for patients with chronic joint and back pain. It is a great way to unwind, relax after a stressful and loosen tense muscles.
HOW IT WORKS
Hydro massage alleviates pain, improves psycho-emotional state, improves joint mobility and active stability, reduces muscular imbalance and improves coordination and balance.
HYDRO MASSAGE SESSION
Water temperature in the hydro massage pool is 29 ºC. Total session duration is up to 30 minutes. Hydro massage pool can be used by three patients simultaneously. There is a hoist for patients with movement disorders (capacity up to 115 kg).
WHAT YOU NEED FOR THE SESSION
Swimwear, pool slippers, a swim cap, personal hygiene products and a towel.
Before coming to the pool, every patient must read the pool use conditions and strictly adhere to them.
WHAT IS BROMINE MINERAL WATER?
Bromine mineral water comes from a 991.4 metre deep well on Jaunķemeri site. Bromine water is extremely concentrated and not suitable for internal use. It is used for baths only.
HOW BROMINE MINERAL WATER WORKS
Medicinal bromine water works on the whole body reducing pain and inflammation, improving microcirculation, boosting metabolism and helping to relax. Bromine water calms down and soothes making you feel relaxed.
WHEN IT IS RECOMMENDED
The treatment is recommended for chronic joint and back pain. It also a good choice for people with demanding work, patients with fatigue or sleep deprivation and those who have high stress levels in their daily lives.
BROMINE MINERAL WATER BATH
10 litres of concentrated bromine mineral water are added to a bathtub filled with water. During the treatment, water temperature in the bath is 36-38 ºC. Treatment duration is 10-15 minutes. There is a hoist for patients with movement disorders (capacity up to 115 kg).

WHAT IS SULPHUROUS MINERAL WATER?
Sulphurous mineral water comes from a 14 m deep well on Jaunķemeri site. Chemical composition of sulphurous mineral water makes it suitable for both drinking and baths.
HOW SULPHUROUS MINERAL WATER WORKS
Medicinal sulphurous mineral water works on the whole body reducing pain and inflammation, improving microcirculation and boosting metabolism. Sulphurous mineral water improves gastrointestinal function and reduces hydrochloric acid production.
WHEN IT IS RECOMMENDED
Baths are recommended for chronic back pain and joint pain. It is a widely used treatment for patients with skin problems, such as psoriasis and neurodermatitis. Internal use of mineral water is recommended for patients with hyperacidity, gastritis or excessive secretion of hydrochloric acid.
SULPHUROUS MINERAL WATER BATH
During the treatment, sulphurous mineral water temperature in the bath is 37-38 ºC. Treatment duration is 10-15 minutes. Bath treatment can take place:
- in a full size bathtub;
- in a sit up tub;
- in a two cell or four cell bath.
There is a hoist for patients with movement disorders (capacity up to 115 kg).
HOW TO USE SULPHUROUS MINERAL WATER FOR DRINKING
Mineral water fountains are situated on the ground floor of the medical building by Fito bar and on the Terrain Therapy Route 3 (to Lake Slokas). It is important to drink the water on an empty stomach or at least 10 to 30 minutes before eating. Drink water slowly, by sips. The best way is to use a specially designed cup. The amount of mineral water to be drunk and the duration of the treatment course will be determined by your doctor.
WHAT YOU NEED FOR THE SESSION
For your bath: a towel and pool slippers. For drinking: a special cup for mineral water.
WHAT IS PEARL BATH?
Pearl bath is a type of water treatment during which your body is massaged by small bubbles of pressurised air.
HOW PEARL BATH WORKS
Travelling up, air bubbles stimulate your skin thermally and mechanically creating a micro massage effect. This treatment has calming and relaxing effect. It is recommended for general health promotion and strengthening the immune system. Suitable for children.
WHEN IT IS RECOMMENDED
It is recommended for patients with muscle pain, chronic fatigue, stress related problems and as a prevention measure. It is good for children to boost their immune system.
PEARL WATER BATH
A patient gets into a bathtub filled with water. A compressor blows air from a mesh on the bottom of the tub creating small bubbles. Water temperature during treatments is 35-37 ºC. Session duration is 10-15 minutes.

WHAT IS UNDERWATER MASSAGE
Underwater massage is a balanced combination of general body massage and the freeing effect of water. Using pressurised water jet for the massage, the specialist applies classic massage principles.
HOW UNDERWATER MASSAGE WORKS
During underwater massage, the body is affected by both the temperature of the water and the pressure of the water jet. This pleasant treatment for muscle and ligament relaxation helps ease tension and alleviate pain, boosts metabolism, improves microcirculation and has a calming effect.
WHEN IS UNDERWATER MASSAGE RECOMMENDED?
It is recommended for patients with injuries or problems with joints, metabolic disorders and obesity and in the event of physical and mental overload. It also relieves stress and improves person’s overall condition. Underwater massage if good for chronic fatigue and burnout syndrome, relieves muscular tension and energises the skin. It can also soften scar tissue.
HOW UNDERWATER MASSAGE IS DONE
During your underwater massage session, you will be in a bathtub filled with warm water. Water temperature is 36-38 ºC. Using a water jet, the specialist will start from the heels going up to the shoulder area. During the massage, water jet will make you relax and fully enjoy the treatment. Treatment duration is 20 minutes.

WHAT IS AQUA BIKE?
It is a device with both cycling and aquatic therapy elements. It is especially suitable for older or overweight people and those recovering from injuries.
HOW AQUA BIKE WORKS
It improves joint mobility, active and passive movement range in knee and hip joints, improves active stability, reduces muscle tension and imbalance, and improves balance, coordination, load tolerance and psychoemotional state.
WHEN IT IS RECOMMENDED
It is recommended for patients with lower extremity functional limitations (contractures after knee or hip joint replacement, after apparent muscular imbalance in lower extremities, lumbar spine spondylosis and other conditions affecting normal functioning of lower extremities).
AQUA BIKE SESSIONS
Sessions take place in our hydro massage pool. From the side of the pool, a physiotherapist or assistant physiotherapist leads the session showing exercises on an aqua bike.
Sessions consist of three parts:
- Warm up exercises in the water: standing or, if necessary, standing by the pool side with hands on the handrail. Low intensity exercise for small muscle groups and joints; breathing exercise. Warm up duration is 5 minutes.
- Main part: 20 minutes of cardio on the aqua bike with addition of various general and coordination exercises for upper body (shoulders and hands). Interval training is used in the sessions with alternating speed and techniques as demonstrated by the therapist leading the session. Exercise intensity does not exceed aerobic level.
- Warm down: 5 minutes. Stretching and relaxation exercises demonstrated by the therapist leading the session.
Sessions can be personalised with exercises based on a specific patient’s diagnosis or in groups of up to 3 people.

WHAT IS CASCADE MASSAGE IN THE POOL
Cascade massage is a physical medicine technique that uses jets of water to massage the body.

Cascade massage alleviates pain, improves joint mobility and active stability, reduces muscular imbalance, improves coordination, balance, load tolerance and psychoemotional state.

HOW CASCADE MASSAGE IS DONE
Before the massage, the patient is instructed about the correct technique: standing under the water jet slightly leaning forward to move head area away from the falling water, knee and hip joints slightly bent so that only back area is massaged. Sessions are led by a physiotherapist or assistant physiotherapist.
Sessions take place in the pool. Cascade massage consists of two 3-minute parts with a 3-minute break between the parts.
WHAT IS AQUATIC PHYSIOTHERAPY?
Aquatic physiotherapy is especially suitable for overweight people and people with joint and spinal problems. The goal of the exercise is to reduce or get rid of the patient’s functional disorders and pain, to unwind, ease emotional and physical tension, strengthen nervous and sensory systems and boost metabolism. Exercising in the pool has additional water massage effect. A physiotherapist monitors the patient in the pool and recommends the most suitable exercises.
