WHAT IS SPEECH THERAPY?
Speech therapy deals with speech disorders, their causes, types and treatment. The term ‘speech disorder’ means person’s complete or partial inability to communicate through talking or writing.
A speech therapist is a medical specialist who offers assessment, diagnostics, correction, therapy of communication ability, speech/language, phonation and swallowing disorders and rehabilitation to people of any age who have speech or language (spoken or written), voice, hearing or swallowing disorders of any origin.
WHO CAN BENEFIT FROM SPEECH THERAPY SESSIONS?
Adults
Consultations and sessions for adults with various neurological conditions or brain injuries:
- Speech disorder diagnostics
- Myofunctional therapy (exercises for mimic muscles and articulatory system)
- Development of expressive language skills
- Development and improvement of communicative function
- Development and correction of reading, writing and arithmetic skills
- Treatment of swallowing disorders
- Education of relatives
Children
Consultations and exercises for children with different language development problems, e.g.:
- Incorrect sound forming, omitting or replacing sounds
- Inaccurate or insufficient vocabulary
- Reading or writing disorders
- Agrammatism (difficulty coordinating subject of the sentence and the speaker, incorrect use of inflections or tenses, incorrect sequence of words in the sentence)
- Difficulty understanding language, i.e. the child does not understand what is said or written without an additional explanation
WHAT HAPPENS IN A SESSION
Speech therapist works with all groups of clients/patients individually or in a group. Session duration is individual in each case.
There are also consultations and training for the parents.
